'What on eARTh' 2015

Wednesday 20th May, 2015 - Leigh Turnpike
Exhibition Opening Night
The opening night to the show was a great success and the feedback received was amazing.
I couldn't of chosen a better team to of been involved with and I would like to thank them for putting so much hard work and commitment towards it; Chloe Reynolds, Calum Rennox, Georgia Smallshaw, Lee Paton. It was great to finish my HND off with such a high standard.

Sold

'Hi Charlotte, I'm a student from Bolton Uni and I'm having my second year exhibition at the moment and after going to the preview my boyfriends dad really likes one of your pieces. He asked me to tell you if you are selling one of those and how much? This is the one he really liked'

I have recently had some great feedback on my work, and this is another piece which has gone to a new home. I am really surprised at the current responses I am receiving.

Sponsorship

An important aspect of my modules and in preparation for our upcoming show, it was important for us to attract sponsorship in order to support the financial obligations of curating and running an exhibition.

I contacted J.Fletcher Engineers with regards to sponsorship. We are extremely pleased to receive their kind £50 donation.

Social Media

To advertise our newly created group & to promote the show I have created a Twitter account for Foursight Art. This is a great way to publicise to a wide range of companies, organisations and people. It is also a fantastic way to communicate with other artists and art groups, for future contacts.

Communication outside of college will also play a vital part in the effective organisation and successful completion of the show.

Using our facebook page we can constantly discuss any ideas / problems or queries that we may be facing during the progress of our final project. This has been an efficient tool particularly because it is easy to utilise for group comments and discussions.

Sale of my first artwork

'Hi Charlotte , I have seen your canvas art at Wigan hospital and love it! Please inbox me a price list of what you have for sale, Thanks'
I recently sold a canvas which I had displayed at Royal Albert Infirmary, Wigan. The buyer contacted me through social media, where I was able to negotiate a price and delivery. It was a major confidence boost that somebody would be interested in purchasing one of my pieces and I am glad it has been hung in a new home.

'My neighbour has helped put this up just couldn't wait lol....How beautiful is that'

Sponsorship Email

As I knew donations would play important role within supporting and assisting finances leading up to the show, I decided to compile a sponsorship letter which I could send to local organisations and companies requesting financial assistance.

Exhibition Spaces - Leigh/Bolton

Bolton and Leigh Exhibition locations

Both ourselves (Foursight Art) and Canverse Collective have had the go-ahead to exhibit at the Leigh Turnpike and Bolton Market place. Both these spaces are great locations to invite members of the public to the shows opening nights. Both spaces are large, well lit and have a mass of wall space to utilise.

Bolton University group meeting

We arranged to visit the Bolton students at their studio to discuss plans for our future exhibition. Although we have constant discussions over the Facebook page, it was ideal to converse face to face.
During this meeting possible venues and dates/times where proposed. Downtex Mill, and Bolton Market place where the choices the Bolton studies where currently in progress talks with. Although we had organised plans with Leigh Turnpike for our 'Foursight Art' show,  we felt as a group it was still important for us to link in with the Bolton exhibition.

Although working towards exhibiting in both shows and curating our group exhibition is going to be a huge amount of hard work, organising and team work, I believe the benefits of these experiences will aid us in future activities.

We are extremely pleased to announce that the group all voted in Favour for James Sanders simplistic yet eye-catching logo. The four individual marks represent our artistic and personal individuality and style. Portfolio building

I spent this week building my professional portfolio for my upcoming interview at Bolton University.
 photo portfolio1_zps0sanvxd8.png
My A1 portfolio will consist of work practical work, photographs and previous exhibition articles to show my development and progression over the course of the 2 yr HND course.

Logo design brief

A part of our modules was to create a collective name for the group and to design a logo for promotion and advertising. With close links to the Graphics Foundation Course, we put together a brief asking them to design and produce a logo that would instantly illustrate our small group 'Foursight Art'.
Below are a few of the designs presented to us;

We were extremely happy with the designs that the graphic students had produced, and that they had taken the time to create these for us. To decide on the final design we will hold a group meeting and put it to a vote.

Whitworth Art Gallery - Manchester

 Cai Guo-Qiang

A recent visit to the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, proved inspirational and stimulating, especially the large scale gunpowder work by Cai Guo-Qiang.
Immediately the scale of the artwork, the calmness it presented within the exhibited space, and the use of violent gunpowder utilised as a subtle mark media. This all presented on handmade paper has offered an avenue that I feel needs exploring for final outcomes. Seeing how marks and colour where portrayed on large scale textured handmade paper, will encourage me to explore my own creative direction, by informing the media I work with or on.

Group discussion for a collective name

Being included with Bolton's second year end of year show, it was important for us to create a collective name that would illustrate us as a small group of artists. This will also lead to our official professional group title, when promoting ourselves through social media and advertisement.
As we have potentially three upcoming exhibitions, promoting the group would play a vital role in the promotion and successful opening nights of the shows. (appealing to people/companies over social media). Firstly we wanted a name that would describe us as four unique artists, which in turn lead us to the number 4 or Four being used somewhere within the final name. To gather sources of inspiration and ideas we researched into local art collectives, artist phrases and language and locations.

After debating and brainstorming, we came to a final decision on 'Foursight Art'. This title combines both Four and foresight, meaning looking ahead to the future. With the four of us looking to promote art within local communities with our exhibitions, and the way we each individually explore the concepts behind our artistic paths, we believed the name fitted perfectly. I am looking forward to promoting the new group over social media to bring attention to our activities and upcoming events.
